About Bruce MacDonald

Having served a very successful and productive term in the 123 rd Legislature, Bruce will now be seeking a second term to support his constituents in House District 61. Bruce has listened closely to his constituents and worked very hard on their behalf.

In his first term Bruce was appointed to the Marine Resources Committee and Business Research and Economic Development Committee. Representative MacDonald’s interests include health insurance reform; energy conservation and development of alternative energy sources; tax reform; and development of the community college system and affordable higher education opportunities.

Bruce is a former Hewlett Packard business executive, elementary school principal and high school teacher. He graduated from Bowdoin College and has a master's degree from Harvard University. He is a former Boothbay Selectman. He led the Barrett Park Pavilion Committee, and is an active member of the Boothbay Civic Association and the Working Waterfront Coalition and a member of the Boothbay Region Lions Club.

In the legislature, his accomplishments include sponsorship and passage into law of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions bill, which will set standards for CO2 emissions from new coal fired plants in the state. He also sponsored and saw passed into law a set of new incentives for small scale and community wind power development. Finally, he played a major role in amending the school consolidation law to allow for continued local control of schools, while promoting consolidation of central office functions.

"It's important to listen to what people have to say," says Macdonald. "What I hear is that people want to see progress in developing energy sources other than oil. People want a stable and growing economy with good jobs and good pay and benefits. They want affordable health care and access to good education from primary grades through college. People also want government at every level to be efficient, honest, and effective. Altogether they see these things as leading to a stronger economy with better jobs in the future for their children. ” “I'll support these concerns."

Working in a bipartisan way, Bruce will continue to be a forceful and persuasive advocate for a stronger economy, development of alternative energy, efficient and effective government, affordable health care, and a strong and effective education system that draws more young Mainers into continuing on after high school, for the better jobs of the future.

Bruce works very hard on the issues brought to him by his constituents. We are lucky to have him work for us and we must return him to office. We need the vision and tenacity of this excellent public servant.
