The Promise and Challenges of Small Farming and the 'Local Food' Movement - Wednesday October 14th, 2015.
A panel of guest speakers led by Alice Percy - President of the Maine Organic Growers and Farmers Association (MOGFA)
Small farming is a vital part of Lincoln County's economy. The meeting will be an opportunity to meet local farmers
and learn all the ways that consumers and the public can support them.
A food basket will be available for donations of non-perishables that will be delivered to a local
food bank during the holiday season.
Also on the agenda is the 2016 Maine Democratic Platform. Anyone interested is asked to review the 2014 platform and
bring up their ideas for changes. Copies are available at www.mainedems.org. The State Platform Committee will begin its work on
October 18 2015.
When: - Wednesday October 14th, 2015. Social time 6:30 PM, Meeting will start at 7:00 PM sharp
Location: Newcastle Community Room on River Road (Attached to the Fire Station)
Farmers' Feast and Contra Dance - Sunday October 25th, 2015
Location: Arlington Grange Hall in Whitefield 3 Arlington Lane (off of Route 126)
When: 4:30 PM House Plant Sale and Social Time; 5:00 PM dinner served by volunteers, including
Sen. Chris Johnson and Rep. Mick Devin, music and dancing will start at 6:30 PM.
Menu: boiled ham, roasted sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, broccoli, potatoes, apple sauce, roll,
desert, apple cider, coffee and tea. All food will be grown or raised locally, vegetarian and gluten free
options will be available. Well-known local musicians Toki Oshima and John Pranio , who have done contra
dances at the Whitefield Grange in the past, will provide the music with a local caller.
Bring a spare set of shoes for dancing!
Tickets: can be ordered in advance by sending a check payable to the Lincoln County Democratic
Committee to Sandie O'Farrell, Treasurer; P.O. Box 336; Waldoboro, ME 04572. Dinner and Dance tickets are $20
or can be purchased separately: Dinner $12, Dance $10. Free for children under 10.
Host Sponsorship: is $100 which includes two dinners and dance tickets. Strong Host Sponsorship builds the
support needed for the costs associated with next year's election.
